`We're just doing our jobs', strippers say in apology

Two male strippers whose Full Monty-style show in a nightclub caused a riot on Court Street have apologised to the people of Bermuda.

Americans Vincent Richardson and Hollis Durity were two of three strippers who bared all at the Spinning Wheel late on Mother's Day.

Richardson and fellow New Jersey strip star Daryl Graham were bound over for a year in Magistrates' Court after their show became too raucous.

But Durity escaped any charges -- and insisted last night that none of the three were aware of Bermuda's indecency laws.

An undercover Policewoman is said to have caught the lewd action on a secret video camera.

But scuffling began inside the club and a mini-riot spilled outside when customers realised the officer was spying on the stage.

Several Police had to flee the scene when they came under a hail of bricks and bottles outside.

And Police said the incident took place around 5.30 a.m. -- long after the Spinning Wheel's licensing hours would have shut.

But owner Charles Burgess insisted the incident took place just after midnight.

Mr. Durity, 29, yesterday told The Royal Gazette : "None of us were familiar with this Country. We just came down for a bit of a vacation.

"And if the show had finished, nothing like this would have happened.

"Plus, it was nowhere near as late as 5.30, it was only just after midnight.

But everywhere we go now, people look at us like we're freaks and take pictures of us like we've done something really bad.

"We were just doing our job and we didn't want to offend anybody. We're sorry that this has become something that it really shouldn't have.'' Graham, 35, left Bermuda for the US on Monday afternoon. Richardson and Durity are due to fly out on Saturday.

Grin and bared it: Vincent Richardson, known as `Lotus' without his clothes, was one of three male strippers who entertained Bermuda ladies last weekend.

They have apologised for doing the `Full Monty' and breaking Bermuda's laws.
