What you need to know about voting
Voters will not be allowed near Bermuda's ballot boxes today unless they are armed with proper identification.
That means anyone heading for one of the Island's 20 polling stations must carry with them a Bermuda driver's licence, Commonwealth-issued passport or a Special Person's Card from the Transport Control Department. Anybody else listed on the electoral register can still mark their Xs if they have a Bermuda Voters Card.
Voters Cards are still available today from the Parliamentary Registrar's Office in the Government Administration Building on Parliament Street, Hamilton. They can be picked up from 9 a.m. until the polls close at 7 p.m.
Today's voting hours are between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Once at the polling station, voters should present themselves to Election Day staff with their ID to collect a ballot paper.
Then voters should head for one of the polling booths to mark their Xs clearly against the candidates of their choice. Everybody is allowed two votes, as Bermuda returns 40 MPs from 20 seats. But may cast one vote. Both votes do not have to be cast for the same party.
Then voters should fold up their ballot paper, drop it in the box and leave the polling station.
Any slip which does not clearly show an X inside one of the designated boxes will be counted as a spoilt paper, disqualifying the vote. Any words or writing on the paper will also count as a spoilt slip. At least three Police officers will be at each polling station, directing traffic into car parks and standing guard at entrances and exits.
Election results will be available live on the Internet at http:/bermuda.election.bm. Any other information regarding voting requirements is available from the Parliamentary Registrar's office on 297-7705 or 297-7706.
