White House card floors doorman!
feeling on top of the world.
The 54-year-old was stunned to learn he is on US President Bill Clinton's Christmas mail list.
But the confirmation was there in writing -- a festive card signed by the President and First Lady.
On the front was a recent shot of the beaming couple in the sumptuous White House state dining room.
And inside trilled the message: "Our family wishes you and yours a joyful holiday season and a New Year blessed with health, happiness and peace.'' The card would have gone down a treat with green campaigner Vice President Al Gore.
It was made out of recycled paper! "It was an absolutely wonderful surprise. I feel really great and top of the world right now,'' exclaimed Mr. Darrell, of Scenic Heights Pass, Southamtpon.
"It's not every day you receive a card from the most powerful man on earth.
"I have never received anything from Mr. Clinton before, and haven't even met him.'' As a doorman for 30 years at Sonesta Beach, however, Mr. Darrell has met many leading international figures.
"I've met Senators, for instance, who have left their cards with me.'' He also has other links with the White House -- his wife Albertha's cousin works there.
"I'm definitely going to make some inquiries about how I received this card.'' In the meantime, Mr. Darrell plans to frame his special card.
