During the last week of July, 10,879 air passengers and 5,733 cruise passengers arrived on the Island, compared to 10,916 air passengers and 5,644 cruise passengers during the same week last year.

Although air arrivals for the July 26 to August 1 period were down over last year, the improved cruise figures resulted in a 0.3 percent rise in the total visitor numbers.

For the year to date, visitor arrivals are up 10.6 percent over 1992. Between January 1 and August 1, there were 237,059 air visitors and 82,290 cruise ship visitors. That compared to 217,081 air arrivals and 71,486 cruise arrivals in 1992.

This year, air arrivals are up 9.2 percent and cruise ship arrivals are up 15.1 percent.

Total visitors for the year to date are at 319,635, up from 288,976 at this time last year.

The four regular cruise callers -- the Dreamward , Horizon , Meridian , and Song of America -- were all above 100 percent last week.

COLLEGE BURGLED CRM Police are probing two Cup Match weekend burglaries at the Bermuda College in Prospect.

In one break-in, the pump room of a building on Roberts Avenue was forcibly entered, and a water pump removed from the floor. Next, an old-style Panasonic video camera was taken from the electronics workshop.

In a separate incident, cash, a compact disc player and two wrist watches were stolen from a cottage on Wilkinson Avenue near Crystal Caves. Detectives investigating believe the theft happened during daylight on Monday morning.

Rolling a cannabis cigarette in a Reid Street nightclub brought a 22-year-old Pembroke man to Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Denton Neil Trott, of Fenton's Drive, admitted possessing 0.51 grammes of the drug.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Police entered the nightclub and found Trott in the bathroom rolling a cigarette. On searching him, they found an envelope in his pocket containing plant material. Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Trott $100.

A DRIVEWAY IS A ROAD WHEN . . .

CTS A driveway is a public road when its has more than three houses on it, a Warwick man learned to his cost yesterday.

Edmund Furbert's jaunt with a friend -- who was not wearing a helmet -- down Farm Lane on an unlicensed, uninsured bike on June 4 ended up costing him $250 in Magistrates' Court.

"I was just taking it out on the driveway,'' Furbert, 23, said. But prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne told the court Farm Lane was defined as a road according to the Traffic Code.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Furbert $100 for having no third-party insurance, $100 for not having licensed the bike, and $50 for carrying a passenger without a helmet.

DRIVER FINED CTS A blood-alcohol reading over twice the legal limit brought a heavy penalty to a Devonshire man in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Derek Charles Dillas was stopped at 4.15 a.m.

on July 3, driving a car on Middle Road, Devonshire.

Dillas was stopped and admitted he had drunk "a few wines''.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge fined Dillas $400 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.

CHURCH SHOCK CTS Worshippers could not believe their eyes when a man exposed himself to them as they left church.

And George Alvin Burrows' actions were described as "disgusting'' by Acting Senior Magistrate, the Wor. John Judge.

Burrows, 58, admitted to openly exposing his person, in Magistrates' Court, yesterday.

Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, told the court that Policemen were called to St. Andrew's Church, Hamilton at 12.20 p.m. on Sunday.

They found Burrows, who lives in the Salvation Army shelter, lying on his left side with his pants and underwear pulled down. He was in full view of people leaving the church.

He claimed he was urinating but Police found no evidence of this.

Mr. Judge fined Burrows $150.
