Private companies were brimming with ideas, said a Works and Engineering Ministry spokesman.

Assistant buildings' manager Mr. James Tucker added: "Government also benefits.

"But ultimately the public will be the beneficiary.'' Mr. Tucker said private architects had long asked for the chance to do Government work.

He pointed out they were now involved in a wide range of projects, including "small renovations''.

It reflected Government's desire to stop trying to do everything "in-house''.

Works Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons said: "I think this is an excellent way of involving private architects in Government projects.'' Mr. Gibbons pointed out many Government architects and engineers were busy on the secondary school project.

He added: "It is our intention to use private experts wherever possible.''
