harassed, abused, and handcuffed by Customs officials at the Airport is to be charged with obstruction, Police last night told The Royal Gazette .

The principal customs officer has requested Australian Eva Salla be charged following her arrest last Wednesday on a summary offence, Police Information Officer Evelyn James Barnett said. It is further understood she is to appear tomorrow morning in Magistrates' Court.

Mrs. Salla -- who is of the Hare Krishna faith -- told The Royal Gazette she was suspected of importing drugs and as a result subjected to a harrowing ordeal at the hands of Airport Customs officers.

She had come to Bermuda to celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary with her husband, who had arrived on the Island three days prior.

Her problems began when she could not tell an Immigration officer where she would be staying: "My husband had arranged our accomodation and was meeting me at the Airport.

The Immigration officer was annoyed that I hadn't filled out my form fully and that I didn't know where I was staying,'' she said.

Following a heated exchange with the officer Mrs. Salla alleges she was "dragged away quite brutally,'' taken to an interrogation room where she was told to stand naked from the waist down and crouch over.

She was subsequently handcuffed and taken by Police to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for X-Rays, which proved she was drug free.

Despite finding no drugs Mrs. Salla's airline ticket and passport were seized.
