Conrad Lister and Antoine Jones stunned the world when they picked up silver medals in the men's doubles ten pin bowling competition at the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia on Sunday. The pair were rank outsiders and were not expected to be in the running for a place on the podium.

And when Sports and Recreation Minister John Barritt heard the news he sent the pair a faxed message praising them for their "perseverance, hard work, dedication and commitment''.

"The Government and the people of Bermuda are ecstatic about the success you have both achieved in winning the silver medal,'' Mr. Barritt said.

"This performance places you in unique company with only a handful of other Bermuda athletes who have achieved success in the Commonwealth Games and will no doubt etch your names in the annuls of Bermuda sporting history.

"Your performances are a key reminder to any aspiring athlete that perseverance, hard work, dedication and commitment to your goals are hallmarks to success. That you achieved such success and accolades in one of the premier sporting spectaculars of the world is fair testimony not only to your skills and development but the intensity and focus of your performance.

"Bermuda is proud of you. You have done yourselves, your sport, your families and your friends proud by this significant accomplishment against some of the world's greatest athletes.

"Bermuda will benefit immeasurably from your success and on behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda I wish to extend congratulations to you and wish you well in the remainder of the competition.'' Meanwhile Mr. Barritt's shadow Nelson Bascome is planning a hero's welcome for the two stars with the help of fellow PLP MP Dennis Lister, who is the first cousin of Conrad Lister.

"We think that what they've done is fantastic,'' Mr. Bascome, a keen former bowler, said.

"They really are unsung heroes and nobody would have expected them to come home with the medals.

"We will definitely be looking at setting up some sort of welcoming party for when they come back home.'' TWO VISITORS ATTACKED CRM Two visitors attacked Crimes against visitors continued this week with an alleged early morning attack in St. George's yesterday.

Police are investigating the report of an alleged armed robbery at Rose Hill which occurred just after 2.30 a.m.

Two visitors had finished a night of socialising and were walking back to their hotel when two men accosted them.

One assailant allegedly hit one of the victims on the back with a rock while the other allegedly drew a machete and threatened them both.

The attackers then fled down Rose Hill on a motorcycle without getting anything.

The first suspect was said to be approximately 20-years-old, brown skinned, short haired and wearing a grey Notre Dame shirt. The other man was also black, about five-feet, nine-inches tall, between 190 and 200 pounds, mid-20s with short hair and possibly a goatee and wearing a white T-short.
