Mr. Grearson, a Canadian who is married to a Bermudian, has taken a part-time post with Government's Bases Transition Team.

His duties include keeping the public informed about Bermuda's takeover of the US bases.

Last week Shadow Labour Minister Mr. Alex Scott attacked the appointment, asking why it had not been advertised.

Yesterday the Progressive Labour Party's Special Assistant for Management and Technology Mr. Walter Lister also voiced concerns He asked how Mr. Grearson got the job if it had not been advertised.

And, like Mr. Scott, he believed there were Bermudians just as capable of doing the job -- had they the opportunity.

Mr. Lister also wondered what could induce Mr. Grearson to leave a secure job at The Royal Gazette .

He believed Mr. Grearson must have been promised further employment once his initial contract with the Bases' team was over.
