Former teacher Madeline Kent-Smith died as she slept in Fort Lauderdale, early yesterday.
Mrs. Kent-Smith, who was the wife of former VSB newscaster Gary Kent-Smith, had been ill for just over three years and was just a few weeks short of her 58th birthday.
Also on the vacation with her was mother-in-law and former Member of Parliament Anita Smith.
A memorial service is slated for Friday, January 7 at the St. Paul's Educational Center in Paget, starting at 2 p.m.
SMITH'S HOME BURGLED CRM Smith's home burgled A South Road, Smith's Parish man reported the theft of cash from his residence on Saturday afternoon.
He said he discovered the theft shortly after noon on Saturday, and that he and his wife had been in the residence at the time.
The intruder apparently gained entry through an insecure door before making off with a significant amount of cash.
The immediate area was searched by attending officers, with no success and Eastern CID is investigating.
MAN HIT WITH BIKE CRM Man hit with bike A man was hit in the face with a BMX bicycle during an argument.
The complainant said he was parking his truck on Court Street at 4 p.m. last Thursday when another man accused him of nearly striking his BMX bicycle.
During the conversation, the assailant allegedly picked up the cycle and struck the complainant in the face, cutting his nose.
Police obtained a description of the man and inquiries are underway.
THIEF STRIKES HOMES CRM Thief strikes homes Thieves broke into two adjoining residences in Rockland Crescent, Warwick.
Police, attending the scene after 2 p.m. last Thursday, were told the culprit forced entry into the first residence, searching several rooms before stealing a quantity of coins from a glass vase.
They were also told that the culprit entered the second residence and searched the rooms in a similar fashion.
Police are investigating the incident.
MAN IN DRUGS ARREST CRM Man in drugs arrest A 34-year-old Pembroke man was arrested for drugs possession.
Police responded to a call after 8 p.m. last Thursday to find a male acting suspiciously on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke.
When they arrived, the man attempted to escape on a motorbike without his helmet.
Police stopped the suspect in a nearby driveway and attempted to search him.
In an attempt to evade the search, the man dropped a plastic twist onto the ground.
The twist contained a rock-like substance.
APARTMENT BURGLED CRM Apartment burgled A tenant at the Clayhouse Inn Apartments reported that her apartment had been broken into Friday.
She told attending officers that the theft occurred sometime in the afternoon and that the intruder made off with a VCR and an unknown quantity of cash.
