The Ontario Cabinet yesterday ordered an investigation into recent controversial comments by Bermudian Mr. Arnold Minors, a member of the Metro Toronto Police Services Board.

But Cabinet did not fire Mr. Minors and name a replacement, as The Toronto Star newspaper wrongly reported yesterday it would.

The 48-year-old graduate of Berkeley Institute recently sparked a huge controversy in Toronto when he compared the city's Police force to "occupying armies'' in comments he made to a reporter.

The Police Services Board expressed unhappiness and Toronto's chief Crown Attorney Mr. Paul Culver said he would file an official complaint with the Attorney General.

Yesterday, the Star reported that Solicitor General Mr. David Christopherson would recommend to Cabinet that Mr. Minors be fired. The newspaper also reported the recommendation would be accepted.

But instead, Cabinet ordered an investigation into the comments. A resident of Canada since 1964 and a member of the Police Board since May of 1993, Mr.

Minors earlier stirred controversy when he said the Holocaust was not a racist act.

Mr. Minors, who holds a Master of Business Administration from Queen's University, has run a consulting company in Toronto since 1983. He earlier worked for the City of Toronto and Imperial Oil Ltd.
