Police said he was Mr. Vincello (Johnny Peppers) Richardson, who had been the caretaker at Fort St. Catherine for 15 years.

Mr. Richardson, of York Street in St. George's, was found in the waters just off the Caribbean Lounge at about 7.30 a.m.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said foul play had not been ruled out. "He had some head injuries which we are looking into,'' P.c. Venning said. "But it could be the case that he fell down.'' Fort St. Catherine curator Mr. Lance Furbert said Mr. Richardson was an "excellent'' employee. He had retired in April. "The staff at the fort are saddened to hear of his death,'' said Mr. Furbert. "It came as a real shock.
