Carlton Perinchief, 37, from Crest View Road, Smith's Parish, was air-lifted to Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital's Bay View burns unit said: "He's still listed in critical condition.'' Meanwhile, Police are still probing the cause of the blast at Mr. Perinchief's home just after midnight on Saturday.

They are continuing to question his 28-year-old girlfriend following reports the pair may have been arguing just before the explosion.

Detectives are also urging other witnesses to come forward.
