Carlton Perinchief, 37, was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after the incident just after midnight on Saturday.

The Smith's Parish man was listed in critical condition in the burns unit last night.

Police are probing the incident, and have said Mr. Perinchief's gas stove blew up as he was trying to light it.

Detectives are questioning Mr. Perinchief's 28-year-old girlfriend. It is understood she witnessed the explosion at Mr. Perinchief's home on Crest View Road, Harrington Sound.
