An advertisement which appeared in The Royal Gazette this week said there was a "vacancy for general secretary'' to start work on September 1, 1995.

BUT president Mr. Michael Charles said the general secretary works on a three-year contract and the rules require that the position be advertised as the term comes to an end.

"We do go through the process,'' Mr. Charles said. "Once we advertise we have to look at the applicants that come in. Our trustees usually interview the applicants and pass on the recommendations. The executive has the final say.

"Mr. Scott has been doing a fantastic job for us all along,'' Mr. Charles said. "I don't know if anyone will come forward who might be better than him.'' Sen. Scott, who is nearing the end of his second three-year term, said he intends to stay on. "In no way am I resigning,'' he said.
