Meanwhile PLP Senator Terry Lister called for the Bermuda National Quiz Contest for Schools to be revamped.

Senate President Alf Oughton kicked off the motion to adjourn by stressing that he did not want it to take the same course as Friday's motion to adjourn when tempers flared.

Mr. Oughton threatened to close the Senate early after a series of heated arguments between Senators.

Yesterday he said if Senator Yvette Swan believed his wrath was directed at her in particular then he was sorry and offered an apology. He said he had not intended to pick out any individual Senator.

Meanwhile Sen. Swan discussed that evening's discord from a different angle.

She noted that a weekend VSB news report claimed that the fracas began earlier on Friday afternoon when she was ill prepared to make her presentation during the debate on the Budget allocation for the Health Department.

"I was floored,'' said Sen. Swan.

She explained that she was not feeling well on Friday afternoon and Opposition Senate Leader Milton Scott understood this but this fact was never mentioned in the VSB report.

It just went to show that there were people in the Press who were prepared to make up the news rather than report it, she said.

Elsewhere, Sen. Lister said the Island's annual quiz competition should be broken up into two events; one for senior schools and the other for the middle schools.

It was absolute nonsense for 11-year-old students to be competing with 17-year-old, he pointed out.

"I am appalled to think that Government could have gotten it so wrong.''
