A cricketer with a local club, Richardson was charged with attempting to murder Ian DeSilva/Simmons.

The 23-year-old was also accused of unlawfully wounding DeSilva/Simmons and 16-year-old Jermaine Lovell, with intent to do them grievous bodily harm.

In addition, Richardson was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, namely a .380 calibre handgun, and using a firearm while attempting to murder DeSilva/Simmons.

The five charges were read out by Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis, who said they related to an incident in Pembroke on October 30.

Richardson, of Harrington Sound Road, Smith's Parish, who this season played for a youth cricket team against the Hyderabad Blues and made his mark as a medium-pace bowler with Cleveland County Cricket Club, was not required to plead.

Looking grim-faced, he was dressed in dark slacks, and a blue, white and black rain jacket.

Crown Counsel Brian Calhoun said he would be opposing bail.

Richardson's lawyer Mr. Philip Perinchief, however, told Mr. Francis: "I am instructed to make no application for bail.'' Mr. Francis remanded Richardson in custody until November 16, when he will reappear in court for mention. Police security was tight, but low-profile, during the brief afternoon court appearance.

Ian Desilva/Simmons, 19, of Hamilton Parish, who was shot five times in his neck and chest, remained in "critical, but stable'' condition at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital last night.

Jermaine Lovell, of Fruitland Lane, Pembroke, was discharged earlier this week after being treated for a hand injury.
