A horse and carriage ride for the Old Town is another possibility.

Nothing is firm, but Tourism Director Mr. Gary Phillips said the ideas had been discussed.

Opening the washrooms, change rooms, and concessions at Club Med "has come up, amongst a battery of other things,'' Mr. Phillips said. "It was part of an overall discussion of what are we planning to have available to entertain people in St. George's.'' In addition to regular visits by the Dreamward , Horizon , and Song of America under the old twin-port concept, the dedicated St. George's ship Royal Majesty makes her first visit to the Old Town on May 30. She is to be berthed at Ordnance Island from Monday to Thursday all summer.

While Club Med remains closed, staff have been maintaining the hotel and beach, which is being used by some visitors.

A worker at Club Med referred queries about a possible beach concession this summer to Mr. Joseph Townsend, senior vice-president and secretary-treasurer with Club Med in New York. He did not return telephone calls from The Royal Gazette .

Mr. David Rowntree, president of the St. George's Chamber of Commerce, said a beach concession for Club Med had been "a hot topic''.

"My understanding is that it is going to be available, and in actual fact, from what I understand, a concessionaire is being looked for,'' he said. "At what stage they are, I have no idea.'' It would be a positive development, he added. "Any activity that we could create down there to keep the tourists happy and in St. George's would be welcome,'' Mr. Rowntree said. "Let's hope there's fire there, and not just smoke.'' Tobacco Bay was well-served, but the beach there could be "overwhelmed'' by the increased number of visitors, he said.

St. George's Mayor the Wor. Henry Hayward said he would also like to see a concession at the Club Med beach. But he said he was unaware of any such plans.
