Shadow Transport Minister Mr. Dennis Lister asked for MPs to send a congratulatory letter to the PTA of West End School.

He said the school had cleaned up an area which had become a "nuisance'' to it.

"They have set a very good example.'' To Opposition House leader Mr. Reg Burrows Bermuda's Under-23 soccer team was worthy of note.

Mr. Burrows pointed out the team remained in the hunt for a place in next year's Pan American Games finals by defeating Canada and holding Jamaica to a draw.

Government backbencher Mrs. Grace Bell congratulated Mrs. Doreen Williams-James for setting up her own funeral business, Alpha.

Mrs. Williams-James is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in St.

George's.

Deputy Opposition leader Ms Jennifer Smith , meanwhile, joined Ms Webb in asking the House to congratulate the Women's Day committee of Bethel A.M.E Church who held a Women's Day service on Sunday.

In the Upper House , local sportsmen and school students were congratulated in their endeavours.

Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) in a lengthy list of praises, asked that congratulations be sent to the netball champions of West Pembroke Primary School and noted they will be playing an all-star game next week.

She commended Mr. Ken Spurling, the organiser of the student entrepreneurs trade fair in which youngsters form "companies'' and design products.

She asked that top local sailor Mr. Peter Bromby be commended for recently placing among the top ten sailors in the world. She wished him well at the Atlanta, Georgia Olympic Games.

The students at Bermuda High School for Girls who put on a marathon teeter-totter-thon on the weekend to raise money for charity were also congratulated by the Senator.

And Mrs. Doreen Williams James was congratulated for becoming the first woman to open and run a funeral home. "God bless her,'' Sen. Butterfield said.

Senators Alf Oughton (Ind.) and Gary Pitman (UBP) also congratulated Mr.

Spurling for his "first-of-a-kind'' student trade fair. Sen. Oughton said he hoped it would an annual event.

Sen. Pitman extended his praise to the Bermuda National Trust for its annual Christmas-time candlelight "walk back in time'' in the town of St. George's last weekend. It was the third year he attended.

Finally, Sen. Norma Astwood (Ind.) asked that the Bermuda Under-23 football team be congratulated for their successes in Jamaica so far.
