caused the accident which led to the death of Delvin Knight.

Mr. Knight was riding his Daelim cycle along Malabar Road in Sandys Parish just after midnight on August 30, 1997 when he apparently lost control of his cycle, slid across the road, and landed near the grass verge on the north side of the road.

An inquest into the death of the 36-year-old man concluded on Monday. And Coroner Archibald Warner is scheduled to deliver his ruling on Friday.

The Coroner's officer, Sgt. Donald Grant, questioned the three drivers of vehicles which were in the vicinity of the accident and who ultimately stopped to help the dying man.

The inquest heard how the three motorists, who had been dining in Dockyard, were travelling home along Malabar Road. Near Grey's Bridge, Leon Stines -- who was driving the car last in the line -- then attempted to overtake Lauren Rawlings who was in front of him. Collington Perinchief was driving the lead vehicle.

At this point Mr. Stines said he saw some "scatter action'' behind him and he pulled back into the left hand lane. He then stopped his car and reversed to see what had happened.

Sgt. Grant suggested to Mr. Stines that the attempt by him to overtake the car in front may have caused the cyclist to lose control.

Mr. Stines initially denied that he had tried to overtake the car, but when pressed by Sgt. Grant, admitted the overtaking manoeuvre.

Despite this, Mr. Stines said he could not see how he could have caused the accident and it was clear that the two vehicles had not come into contact as there was no damage to Mr. Stines' car.

Sgt. Philip Lewis, who investigated the accident, could not ascertain from the evidence how fast any of the vehicles were travelling. There were a number of gouge and scratch marks on the road, but no skid marks.
