been put before MPs.

Currently, the Corporation's borrowing ceiling is $5 million. The extension would enable the Corporation to carry out key projects, including building the Bull's Head multi-storey carpark.

Government also plans to raise the Corporation of St. George's borrowing limit from $720,000 to $1 million.

The changes would be brought in under the Municipalities Amendment Act 1994.

On Friday, the bill was tabled in the House of Assembly. Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul said Government had been lobbied by the Corporation of Hamilton to raise the limit to $20 million.

"With plans for an $8 million multi-storey car park the current limit on borrowing was too restrictive,'' he said.

Mayor of Hamilton the Rt. Wor. William Boyle welcomed the legislation.

He said the Corporation was not allowed to accumulate money, and could not press ahead with the multi-storey project without additional borrowing.
