Couple's trial postponed again
will have to wait at least another month for a trial date.
Jermaine Noel Pearman, 26, and Sharina Anne Tuzo, 18, -- both of Bob's Valley -- appeared in the monthly arraignments session in the Supreme Court yesterday.
But they were told they would have to return to court at the next arraignment session on June 1.
Pearman was further remanded in custody and Tuzo was bailed to return in the much delayed trial into the death of Saed Young on August 29, 1997.
Lawyer Victoria Pearman appeared for Pearman and Philip Perinchief is defending Tuzo.
The arraignment session also had a slew of people appear for drug offences.
Three St. David's men charged with possessing and handling cocaine intended for supply a year ago will be tried on August 16 in the Supreme Court.
Otis Burt Ingham, of St. Luke's Lane, and David and Noel Ottley of Lighthouse Road, all deny possessing and handling more than $140,000 in cannabis on 27 May last year.
The men are free on $10,000 bail. Mr. Justice Ward also ordered them to return to court on August 7 for mention.
Suspected cocaine smugglers Richard Ricardo Steede and Lang Onley, both of Hamilton Parish, will be tried on August 9 for allegedly importing cocaine.
Steede is serving eight years for a separate offence. Onley was freed on $10,000 bail.
The Pembroke woman who changed her plea to not guilty of importing nearly $125,000 worth of heroin last month, will have her case mentioned in the high court on May 31.
Delicia Marie Tucker, 27, of Rambling Lane, was due to be sentenced on April 22 after pleading guilty to importing $124,000 heroin, and $3,650 worth of cannabis.
Tucker was remanded into custody after, on the advice of her lawyer Richard Hector, she denied importing heroin and cannabis. However, she admitted importing $22,500 worth of cocaine in February, 1998. She has yet to be sentenced for that offence.
Derrick Jomell Hewey, 28, of Crown Hill Lane, Devonshire will be tried on June 14 on charges of importing cocaine, possessing it with intent to supply, at the Airport on February 6.
An alternative charge of handling cocaine with intent to supply at the Airport was also denied.
Mr. Justice Ward extended Hewey's $25,000 bail. But he further remanded him into custody until he can meet all of the terms of his bail.
And Terry Eugene Darrell was bailed until June 1 when his cannabis importation and possession case will be mentioned again.
Darrell was arrested on August 13 last year. Lawyer Mark Pettingil will defend him.
Jamaican Dwight Wright was also further remanded in custody to face his drugs importation trial on May 31.
Wright, 27, is the first drugs suspect from Operation Bermuda Triangle, a major sting operation between the US and Bermuda aimed at cruise ship crews.
The busboy denies importing, possessing, and handling cocaine and cannabis.
Lawyer Richard Hector will defend Wright.
Clifton Hopeton Morrisson, also of Jamaica, will be returned to the next arraignment session when his case has been set down for mention.
Morrisson, a self-employed worker, denies importing, possessing with intent to supply, and an alternate charge of handling cocaine on February 6.
