Cruise visitors fined for pot
Magistrates' Court yesterday for possessing cannabis and drug equipment.
Michelle S. Metz, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing 2.98 grams of cannabis. Her friend and travelling mate Jacqueline B. Orth, 45 was charged with possessing cannabis resin and 5.31 grams of cannabis. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
Prosecuting, Police Sgt. Rex Osborne told the court that on May 29 Customs officers boarded the Meridian . They searched the cabin of the two women and found seven homemade cigarettes in a box under the bed which contained 2.98 grams of cannabis belonging to Metz.
They also found an additional 5.31 grams of cannabis and 1.34 grams of cannabis resin which belonged to Orth.
When Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked them if they had anything to say Metz replied: "I apologise. I had no intent on bringing it on the island.'' Mr. Francis fined Metz $300 for possessing cannabis and fined Orth $250 for cannabis resin and $500 for the possession of cannabis.
