More than $2,000 cash stolen from a fruit and vegetable store safe was spent on cocaine, a 32-year-old man admitted.

Gregory Lorenzo Nolan of Friswells Road, Devonshire, was sentenced in Supreme Court for breaking into Amaral's Fruit and Vegetable Market on Victoria Street on January 12 and removing a safe containing $2,275 cash, personal cheques and banking documents.

Nolan pleaded guilty to charges of stealing, wilful damage and possession of house-breaking equipment.

He admitted to Police he spent $2,143 on drugs after prising open the safe with a crowbar. The cheques and remaining cash were later recovered although the safe, worth over $1,000, was rendered useless.

Senior Crown Counsel Mr. Brian Calhoun said Nolan displayed a "14-year consistent pattern of breaking and entering''.

But Mr. Tim Marshall, defending, urged the Chief Justice to take into account Nolan's co-operation with Police and full confession.

The Chief Justice the Hon. Austin Ward handed down concurrent prison sentences of three years, 18 months and three years, respectively, on each count.

SITE VISIT FOR DOLPHIN PLAN PLN Site visit for dolphin plan The Planning Department has deferred Westend Properties' application for a dolphin habitat until a site visit has been completed.

Several agencies, including the Bermuda National Trust and the national Liberal Party, have opposed the plan which, if successful, would bring bottle-nosed dolphins back to the Island.

Visitors were the target of one them. Police Insp. Roseanda Jones said a large amount of cash and jewellery, including five rings and two watches, was stolen from a room at a Warwick guesthouse.

In three of the break-in reports, nothing was reported stolen.

Police also received seven reports of stolen cycles within the past 24 hours.

ACCUSED MAN APPEALS COMMITAL COA Accused man appeals commital Paget men Herbert Alan Williams and Richard Thomas, charged last year with growing marijuana, have been committed for trial in a decision handed down by Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl Ann Mapp.

But businessman Williams, in what is thought to be an unprecedented move, is appealing her finding that there is enough evidence to try him in Supreme Court.

Crown counsel Mr. Khamisi Tokumbo said: "I am preparing as if the case will be dealt with during arraignments (when he must enter pleas) on March 1, but I have been told Williams is appealing.'' He added though, he was "not aware of anyone having appealed a committal decision before or whether there are grounds for it''.

Williams, 42, of Harbour Road, and Thomas, 39, of White Sands Road, have been charged with cultivating and conspiring to cultivate 75 cannabis plants between an unknown date and January 18, 1994.

Thomas was further charged with possessing cannabis intended for supply and possessing cocaine on January 17, 1994, in Paget.

And Williams was charged with possessing cannabis and allowing his house, at Harbour Road in Paget, to be used for the production of cannabis.
