Dill opens Technical Centre
opportunity when he cut the ribbon to the Bermuda College's new Technical Education Centre.
Flanked (L-R) by the College's President Dr. George Cook, President of the College Mr. James King, Andrew Cooper of Sea Land Construction and Fanshaw Pitcher, Mr. Dill told an assembly of guests, students and teachers, the Technical Education Centre will provide significant new opportunities and an easier transition for students or anyone else interested in technical training.
"We frequently hear so much about the closing of the old technical school.
Well the technical centre is not the old school. The level of training is far more advanced, far more superior.
"Now that we have the actual physical and academic infrastructure we have to work on the business support side,'' he added.
At 25,000-square-feet and sporting shop space enough to handle ten automobiles, the facility provides an infrastructure for certificate-level, career-entry level courses in auto body repair, auto mechanics, air conditioning and refrigeration, building construction with focus on plumbing and carpentry, and electronics with a focus on consumer, computer, and telecommunications, said Associate Dean of Applied Studies, Kelson Smith.
The centre will also offer two additional associate degree courses; an associate in science: electronics. And an associate in electronics: technical.
Both courses said Mr. Smith, are at university entrance level.
Just up and running the programme has 44 full-time students currently enrolled. Seventy students have signed on for part-time studies.
At capacity says Mr. Smith, the centre could accommodate about 150 full-time students.
