Magistrates' Court heard that Furbert, 40, was found at 12.40 a.m. on Boundary Crescent in Devonshire. His bike was leaning against a wall and he was sitting on it with the keys in the ignition.

When woken up he began talking incoherently and then fell off. He continued to mumble on the ground, apparently not recognising the officers were Police.

He was unable to stand up and they carried him to their patrol car, prosecutor Sgt. Wilburt McLean told the court. A breath test showed he had 199 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Senior magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Furbert: "199 is just about at the limit of the machine's ability to measure you.

"You were totally unable to handle this cycle, weren't you?'' Furbert, of Studio Lane, Hamilton Parish, admitted being in control of a bike while his driving ability was impaired by drink. He was fined $450 and taken off the road for a year.
