march planned by parents for Monday.

Mr. Simons, in a brief Press release, said there was no need for parents to march to Parliament in protest of proposed education cuts because his Ministry had "found a solution''.

And, Mr. Simons said, he will make "a full report'' to the House of Assembly during Monday's debate on education.

The Minister's statement came on the same day The Royal Gazette revealed parents were preparing to march on Parliament.

Parents are opposed to the $2.2 million proposed cuts which include 25 teachers, summer school programmes, and 50 percent of the Ministry's textbook budget.

Mr. Simons refused to say whether his Ministry's "solution'' meant that those areas targeted will not be cut or that there will be no cuts.

National PTA president Mrs. Marian Askia, who learned about the new development through the Press, last night said the march will go on.

And she questioned why Mr. Simons did not mention anything about a "solution'' when he saw her at a Dellwood PTA meeting on Monday night.

"If he had as much respect for parents as he says he does, he could have even contacted me (yesterday),'' she said.

Mrs. Askia explained that the march was not just a protest against proposed cuts and education reform delays.

"This is a march of concern,'' she said. "This is not anything militant or radical. This is a march of concerned parents who want to be recognised.

"There are a lot of horror stories out there, like kids who are waiting over a year to be tested in special education.'' Mrs. Askia said "parents have reached the point where they are frustrated and no one is listening to them''.

The march is scheduled to begin at City Hall at 5.40 p.m. on Monday. But parents are asked to gather there at 5.15 p.m. for a brief address by Mrs.

Askia and organiser of the teachers' union Mr. Milton Scott.

Parents, with their children, will march to the House of Assembly where they are expected to present a petition to Mr. Simons.

Mrs. Askia encouraged parents, who have not yet submitted petition forms to the National PTA, to drop them off at Peace Lutheran Church on South Road, Paget, between 5 and 7 p.m. tomorrow or from 10 to noon on Saturday.
