Education officials set up emergency plan for students
The entire student body of the Harrington Sound Primary School has been forced into temporary accommodations after a weekend fire burned much of their school.
"They're going to be housed at the Whitney Institute tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday,'' Vivlyn Cooper, senior education officer for schools, told The Royal Gazette yesterday.
"Thereafter, further arrangements will be made to house them,'' she added.
Fire officials remained tight lipped about the cause of the fire and investigations are continuing at the sealed off school.
Mrs. Cooper went on to say psychologists and counsellors will be on hand today to help the roughly 260 youngsters through the traumatic experience.
But she assured parents that the Education Department was fully prepared with plans and activities to both occupy the children and manage the difficult situation.
"We will ensure that as little disruption as possible takes place with their education,'' she said.
Mrs. Cooper urged parents to take their children directly to the Whitney Institute this morning.
And she advised them to listen out for further announcements regarding future developments.
