Police yesterday reported that they were investigating the incident which took place on South Road, Smith's Parish, near John Smith's Bay on Thursday evening.

The man was walking home from a bus stop when he was attacked by two men.

Police said the man was hit in the face and knocked to the ground where he remained unconscious for a short time.

The offenders ran off with a blue canvas bag, containing some mail and a few keys.

Passing motorists and an off-duty Police officer found the victim and he was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for facial cuts and abrasions and later released.

Police appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact Det.

MAN CHARGED WITH CAUSING DEATH CTS Man charged with causing death A defence attorney yesterday accused a Crown Counsel of "arrogance at its highest'' in Magistrates' Court, for bringing charges against his client before the case had been fully prepared.

Darnell Dayon Kevin Pikney, 20, of Beacon Hill Road Sandys, was charged with causing the death of Zalita Hunt by driving a motorcycle in a dangerous manner on April 20 last year.

Pikney was also charged with driving in a dangerous manner and causing Kioshi Edwards' death on the same date.

He was not required to plea to either charge since the matter will be dealt with in Supreme Court.

Crown counsel Mr. Philip Storr, asked that the case be adjourned for one month so that final preparations could be made.

But Pikney's counsel. Mr. Archibald Warner, said he "was taken by surprise by these charges.

"This has been in the Police's hands for almost a year,'' he said. "A four week rollover is an unreasonable length of time...this is an inordinate delay.'' Mr. Storr, however, said the case required statements from eyewitnesses, doctors, and ambulance personnel and that four weeks was necessary in order for the case to be properly prepared.

This explanation did not sit well with Mr. Warner who said charging his client at this time without a fully prepared case was an example of the deteriorating standards of prosecutors in Bermuda.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis, although granting the four week adjournment, advised the Crown to serve all those documents with essential evidence to the defence as they were ready.

He then released Pikney on $1000 bail for mention on February 27.
