Enjoy Sonesta food in your home with their new take-out service
The Sonesta hotel is making their restaurant experience available for take-out through a new programme called 'Sonesta at Home'.
Executive chef, Stephan Juliusburger explains: "Locals are welcome in all of our restaurants, and we wanted to offer take-out as an additional service. We also saw room in the market place for this service.
"As such both pizza and sushi are available for take-out.'' Pizza take-out is offered from the Longtail Cafe which is just off the entrance foyer.
There are six pizza combinations to pick from, or you can build your own from an expansive list of gourmet toppings. The pizza is then hearth-baked in a brick oven.
Each pizza is 14 inches and feeds two to three people on average.
Prices range from $20.90 for a 'fresh crust, fresh baked cheese pizza' to $19.90 for a combination pizza.
Mr. Juliusburger said: "The pizzas have been very popular. Our menu was developed about a year ago, but pizzas were only available through room service to hotel guests. Only recently did we decide to open the doors and make this something that you could either get in the lounge or to take out the door.
"In creating the menu, we got our best pizza eaters together, and said what's fun? We wanted it to be fun, and unusual, for instance, papaya.
"We also have local flavours, such as chaurice sausage. The result is the 'Calypso' with chaurice, peppers and papaya, which has been really popular.'' The other unlikely and original pizza is the `White Bird', which is a white pizza. As a white pizza, it has an alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce.
Grilled chicken shreds and portobello mushrooms combine with the creamy alfredo sauce make this a very rich, but wonderful pizza.
"Actually, classically and historically the first pizzas were white. I had already tried a white pizza on a menu, when I worked in the New York area and the old Italians raved about it and said they had not seen anything like it in years. It is well worth a try,'' said Mr. Juliusburger.
In addition to pizza, a salad can also be ordered. The signature Sonesta salad is called the `Junkyard'.
Not junkyard like a car junkyard, but like a garden junkyard with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon bits, fried capers, crispy onions, olives, carrots... all sorts of stuff.
The Sonesta is also offering sushi take-out from Lillian's Restaurant, on the bottom level of the hotel.
"Our sushi take-out menu is the entire menu, says Mr. Juliusburger with the exception of the daily board specials.
"When you telephone however, you are connected directly to the sushi bar and the sushi chefs who can tell you what the specials are.
Both pizza and sushi take-out service is available seven days a week from six p.m.
The last order is taken at half past nine, for pick up by ten p.m.
The telephone number for pizza orders is 239-3119. To order sushi, please telephone 239-3164.
