In addition to having art displays set up in the library for the next two weeks, the College will host various singing groups, dancers, and movies highlighting black contributions.

On Tuesday, singer LeYoni Junos will perform between noon and 12.30 p.m. in the student centre. She will be followed by singer Iesha Trott from 1 to 1.30 p.m.

The movie "Beyond The Dream'', which covers slavery, segregation and the civil rights movement, will be shown on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and next week.

On February 18, the Bermuda African Dancers will perform from noon to 12.30 p.m.

The last week of the month will feature the Suzette Harvey dancers on February 25 and the Berkeley Institute choir on February 27. Both performances will take place from noon to 1 p.m.

Local author Dale Butler is also scheduled to speak at the College on February 25.

CHEEKY THIEFT ESCAPES CRM Cheeky thief escapes A sly thief walked out of a Hamilton shoe shop wearing new sneakers he had not paid for.

Now Police officers are trying to establish the identity of the culprit -- who left his own shoes behind.

He is described as a five-foot five-inches-tall black male aged about 19. He was wearing a brown T-shirt, black and white baggy jacket and faded baggy blue jeans.

The thief entered the store at 12.45 p.m., tried on a pair of black and beige Kani sport shoes worth $110 and then walked out in them without paying.

Police officers are asking anyone who can assist with inquiries to call Hamilton CID at 295-0011.

BANNED DRIVER FINED CTS Banned driver fined Fredjuan Hughes was fined $570 in Magistrates' Court after he admitted speeding at 66 kph and riding an auxiliary cycle while disqualified.

Hughes 18, of Rocklands Estate, Warwick was caught speeding on January 26 on Stonecrusher Corner in St. George's where Police officers discovered he was a disqualified driver.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Hughes $270 for speeding at 66 kph and banned him from riding an auxiliary cycle for six months. Hughes wass fined $300 and banned for driving all vehicles for a year for disqualified driving.

MAITRE D' BANNED CTS Maitre d' banned A restaurant maitre d' was fined $500 and banned from driving for a year after admitting failing to provide a breath sample for analysis.

Thierry Foessel, 29, was stopped by Police on North Shore Road on January 11 when his white Hyundai hit a kerb.

The patrol car moved in and officers pulled Foessler's car over after he struck the kerb. Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that Foessel appeared drunk but failed to give a breath sample.

MAN ADMITS FIGHTING CTS Man admits fighting Hurvein Thomas of Friswell's Hill was slapped with a $300 fine after he pleaded guilty to fighting in the street.

Magistrates' Court heard Police officers raced to the junction of Court and Reid Street at 3.20 a.m. on November 30 where they found the 25-year-old Pembroke man fighting another person.

Thomas admitted later that he had been fighting in a public place and told the court: "It was a misunderstanding.'' Senior Magistrate Will Francis replied "you're right it was a misunderstanding'', before he fined him $300.

TEENAGER FIRL ARRESTED CTS Teenage girl arrested A 15-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a 13-year-old Sandys girl.

Police believe both girls were under the influence of alcohol when the altercation between them took place at 2 p.m. at Khyber Pass, Warwick.

The younger girl received facial injuries and was detained at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for observation.
