A truck carrying sheet metal dropped part of its improperly secured load which apparently pierced the car's fuel tank, a Fire Service spokesman said.

The car had been travelling behind the truck when the metal fell onto the road.

But no fire resulted and firemen left the scene after washing fuel off the road, the spokesman added.
