The group, Bermuda Human Rights Alliance, spoke out after Mr. Santucci was accused of making a gay-bashing sermon at a funeral.

Mr. Santucci is against making gay sex legal, which is one of the BHRA's aims.

A group spokesperson said yesterday: "We do not wish to promote further exposure of his performances. Nor do we wish to engage in any of his devilish tactics.

"Only he can deal with his conscience.

"It must also be noted that many gays in the community were beside the deceased's bed right up until the end, not Mr. Santucci alone as he would have everyone believe.

"We would also like to commend Mr. Santucci's brother, the Rev. Leonard Santucci, for delivering such a truthful and well presented sermon.

"Duane should take lessons in humanity from his brother.

"We are not afraid of Duane. The BHRA cannot be bothered to burden the public any further by promoting such `attention seeking', for we have other pressing issues to deal with such as the fight for equalityunder the law and total human rights.''
