pointed the finger at a relative's boyfriend in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

When questioned by Crown Counsel Leslie Basden, the girl named the man as her assailant.

The 39-year-old Sandys man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously pleaded not guilty to sexual exploitation of a young person and the alternate charge of sexual exploitation of a young person in a position of trust.

Yesterday in court, the girl's mother testified that the alleged incident occurred in the latter part of 1996 when the girl was nine years old.

"I noticed when she got her bath that her vagina was blistered... I thought it was a cyst,'' said the mother.

"My sister took her to the clinic and the doctor said my daughter had herpes.

"The next day, Police and a social worker came to the house and told me `someone has sexually assaulted your daughter','' she added.

During cross-examination, the girl's mother said the girl went to the relative's house every day after school for several weeks.

And the girl told the court that the relative was not home on the day the alleged incident occurred -- but her boyfriend was.

During cross examination by lawyer Victoria Pearman, the girl admitted to giving two different accounts of the alleged incident.

The girl had previously accused another man, and later gave two different accounts of where her relative's boyfriend had allegedly committed the act.

Brenda Davidson, the physician who examined the girl, told the court she discovered the girl was infected with herpes, gonorrhoea, and chlamydia.

"The child denied any reason for the appearance (of the diseases), but that is not unexpected,'' said Dr. Davidson. And she added: "Children cannot fantasise or imagine sexual contact unless they have experienced it.''
