People who correctly sort out their recyclables and put them out for collection could receive prizes.

These include a case of canned soda and a $250 grocery voucher.

Yesterday the "Caught Doing it Right'' recycling promotion was announced by the Works and Engineering Ministry.

It is being carried out with the help of John Barritt and Sons, and the Metro Mineral Water Company.

And its aim is to give people an incentive to sort out garbage correctly.

From today, special Works and Engineering teams will be scouting Bermuda's five recycling zones, looking for possible winners.

Each week, one household from each of the zones will be selected.

And residents at home will receive a package of blue recycling bags and a "Recycle It Feels Good'' T-shirt.

Householders will also have the chance to put their names in a weekly draw.

At stake will be canned soda from either Barritt or Metro. A $250 grocery voucher will be the prize in a monthly draw.

A Works and Engineering spokesman said: "We are very excited about this new incentive programme and wish to applaud both beverage distributors, which both contribute significantly to Bermuda's source of recyclable aluminium.

"We thank them for agreeing to support us in this venture.''
