Hamilton Parish man fined $1,300
week after he admitted dishonesty and traffic charges.
Donald Frederick Walker, 45, of 41 Trinity Church Road, pleaded guilty to forging and fraudulently uttering a cheque, and obtaining $260 by false pretences on February 12.
Walker, a self-employed painter, also pleaded guilty to riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle and riding without a driver's licence on February 19.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard that Walker was asked by workmate Belinda Brown to pick up her paycheque from Marriott Castle Harbour.
Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon said Walker later picked up cheques for himself, Ms Brown, and another man. None of the cheques were endorsed.
Ms Brown later began to get suspicious and after investigating, found the cheque had been cashed at Marriott.
She was unable to find Walker for several weeks until confronting him, when he told her the cheque was at his home. Ms Brown became suspicious and called Police.
Walker was interviewed on March 3 when he admitted the offence and was charged.
He told Mr. Francis he left the money for Ms Brown at the hotel and claimed she did not pick it up.
Mr. Francis fined Walker $200 on each count and ordered that $260 be paid as compensation to Ms Brown.
He also fined Waker $200 each for having an unlicensed cycle and not having insurance, and $300 for not having a driver's licence.

Marshalene Robinson, 22, of 39 St. John's Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to assaulting Franklin Simons on November 13, last year.
But she denied doing at least $60 worth of damage to Mr. Simons' property that day.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered a trial for September 8.
During the hearing, it emerged that Robinson lives with Mr. Simons.
"Well, I've set the trial,'' Mr. Francis said. "If he doesn't show, then we'll just have to leave it there.'' TEEN STOLEN $150 FROM EMPLOYER CTS Teen stole $150 from employer Stealing $150 cash from her employer landed a 16-year-old student in Magistrates' Court.
Kylah Marie Tear, of Happy Dale, Pembroke, pleaded guilty last week to stealing the money while employed by Somers Distributors' Photo Masters store on Reid Street on March 6.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered Tear to return for sentencing on June 23 when he will read a social inquiry report into her life and the reasons she committed the crime.
Junior Crown counsel Veronica Gordon said Tear was caught in a sting set by her manager and a private detective.
They planted three $50 bills in a bag in a store counter after documenting the cash.
The manager had noted his weekend floats had been relatively small in January and February and hired the detective.
Tear was confronted and admitted taking the money. She handed over the cash which was compared to photocopies made earlier in the day. Ms Gordon said Police were called, the circumstances explained to them, and she was arrested late that afternoon.
Tear admitted taking the money during a Police interview and she later asked that another stealing offence be taken into consideration.
She was released on $500 bail for which she must find a like surety.
ASTWOOD FREED ON $500 BAIL CTS Astwood freed on $500 bail A man accused of violating a domestic order and verbally abusing a woman and escaping custody has been ordered to stand trial in August.
David Winston Astwood was freed on $500 bail after he pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to breaching a protection order on February 16, by loitering outside Renee Kelly's workplace and verbally abusing her.
Astwood, 22, of Parson's Road, Pembroke, also denied escaping Police custody on April 21.
Astwood was ordered by Senior Magistrate Will Francis to have no contact with Ms Kelly until the trial on August 30.
