Randolph Lightbourne yesterday appeared in Magistrates' Court to elect a short form preliminary inquiry into the allegation that he caused the death of Colin Francis by dangerous driving on Middle Road, Warwick, on October 16, 1995.

It was also alleged that Lightbourne, acting with two others, attempted to pervert the course of justice in relation to the driving offence.

Lightbourne, of Devon Springs Road, was also charged with driving an unlicensed and uninsured car.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis set the preliminary inquiry for Friday.

Lightbourne also appeared in court yesterday on another charge of robbing a restaurant and bar at knifepoint of more than $4,600 and wounding a staff member.

Lightbourne is accused of stealing cash from Woody's Drive Inn in Sandys on December 22, 1995.

He was further charged with unlawfully wounding restaurant worker Owen Trott with a knife.

Lightbourne, represented by lawyer Archibald Warner, elected a long form preliminary inquiry into the robbery charges.

Mr. Francis set the inquiry for May 6 and extend Lightbourne's $40,000 bail.
