Honour for Waterloo
the prestigious marketing association Relais et Chateau.
It joins its sister hotel, Horizons and Cottages, as a member of the Paris-based organisation, which markets guest accommodations in some 40 countries.
Bermuda is now the only country in the world which has two member properties, said Mr. George Wardman, who, with his wife, Claudia, manages Horizons Ltd., which owns both hotels.
Last night, the couple said they were "ecstatic'' at the news. "We've been trying for this for about a year,'' he said. "Since then, the association has been checking us out at regular intervals.
"Only the finest small properties are admitted to Relais et Chateau. It is a great honour.
"The association puts emphasis on a very personable, warm, attentive service.'' None of Bermuda's other hotels belong to the association, although several have tried and failed to join, said Mr. Wardman.
He paid tribute to Mrs. Trudy Mulder, who manages Waterloo House. Horizons Ltd. is principally owned by Mr. Wardman's mother, Mrs. Elfrida Chappell. The Wardmans also have a significant stake.
