Hotel guard foils armed robbers
Warwick in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Thanks to quick action by a security guard, the attempted robbery was foiled, a Police spokesman said.
The two men fled towards the Keith Hall Road-Ravello Garden Lane area, Sgt.
Roseanda Jones said.
She would not disclose what weapons the men carried. And she would neither confirm nor deny reports that a gun might have been used.
Sgt. Jones said few details were being disclosed about the incident to ensure the investigation was not hampered in its early stages.
It is understood that the men went through the hotel's entrance and were heading for the bell desk.
Sgt. Jones would not reveal how the guard managed to thwart the attempted robbery, but said he did so without a fight. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured, though the guard was "shaken''.
"He was very brave -- I take my hat off to him,'' she said. Police are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Belmont-Keith Hall Road area to contact Supt. Vic Richmond.
Belmont general manager Mr. Billy Griffith said none of his guests were affected by the attempted robbery.
"It was not a robbery and no guests were involved,'' he said.
