House praises West Indies team

Shadow Minister of Community Affairs Mr. Reginald Burrows said a letter of congratulations should be sent to the West Indies cricket board.

Opposition leader Mr. Frederick Wade hailed the success of Black History Month.

He said the daughter of Malcolm X received a posthumous black achievement award during a ceremony at The Spinning Wheel.

It was an exciting Hollywood-style evening, said Mr. Wade.

Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan and Community Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons praised a Black History Month function at St. Paul AME Church.

They also congratulated Mr. Burrows' parents on their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Burrows Snr. was a "shining example'' to Bermudians, said Sir John.

Opposition whip Mr. Stanley Lowe described Mr. Burrows' parents as a "quiet, humble, dignified couple''.

On a sadder note, he expressed regret over the death of Mr. Wilbur Richardson.

His sentiments were shared by UBP MPs Mr. Phillip Smith and Mrs. Grace Bell.

Education Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons congratulated the organisers of an Education Month event at Stonington Campus, which featured the Bermuda Regiment and the Gombeys.

National Liberal Party leader Mr. Gilbert Darrell asked for a letter of condolences to be sent to the family of 21-year-old Jerome Belboda, who died in a road crash this week.
