he has been imprisoned for two years.
Coltrane Ratteray was brought before Senior Magistrate Will Francis on Thursday for failing to pay a $210 fine for a 1995 speeding offence.
"Is there any reason why I should not order you to pay forthwith or be sent to prison?'' asked Mr. Francis.
"Yes, because I'm already in prison,'' the 31-year-old man replied.
Ratteray said he had been told during his trial two years ago that he would have time to pay the fine.
But he pointed out that as he had been imprisoned since then, he had had no opportunity to earn the money.
Mr. Francis said he would allow Ratteray to pay the fine two months after he is released from Westgate Correctional Facility in August.
