It's back ot school for the boss
bosses.
That is the view of Dr. Argentine Craig, of the National Training Laboratory, who is promoting two Professional and Management Development courses at Bermuda College.
The courses will give companies in Bermuda and from abroad an opportunity to improve the supervisory abilities of their managers.
College officials are hoping that the courses will again persuade firms to use the Island's college instead of seeking similar schemes overseas.
In November, Dr. Craig and Mr. George Ford will run a week-long Management Work Conference for middle managers to explore the human side of getting the job done. It includes improving staff productivity in the areas of motivation, creativity and commitment.
And in December there will be a course in team building so that managers can understand how working as a team can help in business.
Dr. Craig said: "Really the courses are open to anyone -- the whole spectrum of people working for a company.
"The recession is a good time for this course because firms taking advantage of this will come out of the recession with staff in a stronger position.
"A lot of it is about developing relationships where in Bermuda there is already a firm base.
"The programmes are tailored for the level of development of the employees.
They involve basic management, listening and working with a group of people to get the job done.'' Assistant Dean of Adult and Continuing Education at Bermuda College, Mrs.
Helen Pearman Ziral is delighted that NTL are coming to Bermuda to run such courses.
Mrs. Pearman Ziral said: "One of the reasons Bermuda College opted for NTL is because of the fact that we feel that training is a vital aspect in organisations and also because of their reputation.
"We are giving companies a super bargain, because in the past they have had to send people abroad for this type of course. Bermuda College is a leader.'' Public Relations Officer at the College, Mrs. Jan Doidge said: "To have someone of the calibre of Dr. Craig to come here is a fantastic opportunity for Bermuda and Bermudians to take advantage of.'' The College officials say they are surprised that all the places on the courses are not yet taken. Interested companies have until the end of the week to register by phoning the college on 236-9000.
The NTL has been a respected source of professional training in the United States for the past 40 years.
