John Jefferis' track record goes back to the seventies

JOHN JEFFERIS is the managing director of the Elbow Beach Hotel and Development Company. He was previously president and general manager of the hotel, a position he held for ten years.

A graduate of Birmingham College in England, he was awarded the Hotel and Catering Institute's national award for the "Top Final Year Management Student''. After working in England at the Savoy Hotel in London, and for De Vere Luxury Resorts, he moved to Bermuda in 1971, working for Forte Hotels, initially at the Bermudiana Hotel and subsequently at the Belmont Hotel Golf and Beach Club as general manager.

In 1989 he was named Bermuda's first "Hotelier of the Year'', and in 1990 he was elected by the Caribbean Hotel Association's 39-nation membership as "Caribbean Hotelier of the Year''.

He is a member of Government's Tourism Board and Marketing Committee, and was the founding `Bailli' (or president) of the Bermuda Chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.

The Elbow Beach Hotel development, he says, is extremely important for Bermuda, particularly in light of what is happening in the industry worldwide.

"During this period in economic history when there is a global problem of overbuilding in the hotel industry, Bermuda is fortunate to have investors such as the new owners of Elbow Beach, who are uncompromising in their objective to make the property a truly world-class resort.''
