Juvenile storms out of court room
yesterday after he stormed out when misbehaving.
Magistrate Carlisle Greaves ordered prosecutor Insp. Peter Giles to arrest the boy after he bolted from the courtroom after protesting that Mr. Greaves was "judging'' him.
The blow-up came after Mr. Greaves noted the Pembroke boy's dyed hair, earring and heavy gold chain. He was not in school uniform.
"You're judging me? Who are you to judge me?'' the boy said. "I ain't standing up. Just do what you're going to do. Don't judge me by my hair. I don't judge you by your suit.'' After the boy was brought back from Parliament Street, Mr. Greaves had Insp.
Giles call a plain clothes Policeman to assist him in getting the boy to stand.
The boy sucked his teeth and told the Policeman not to touch him and repeated that he would not stand, before eventually standing.
Later Mr. Greaves said: "Look at you. You are not a man. You're crying.
You're not a bad man after all. I'll need to take a closer look behind that mask you have on.'' Mr. Greaves told the boy he was "headed down the wrong path'' and would never be able to buck the system successfully.
Mr. Greaves and panelists Austin Thomas and Leonie Curtis, sent the boy to an "approved home'' for sentencing.
The panel had read a social inquiry report after he pleaded guilty to attempting to break and enter a cycle shop with other boys in March.
His mother and grandparents told Mr. Greaves they were powerless in punishing the boy and said they feared he would sink further into the criminal world.
The boy's tearful grandfather said: "The law sends mixed signals. They call it child abuse, but when he was with me he was disciplined. We didn't have all what you just saw.''
