Law is next stop in ex-teacher's `journey'
Bermuda Bar Association.
Philmore Elroy Warner, of Quarry Hill Road, Warwick, was ushered into the Island's legal fraternity during a Call to the Bar ceremony in the Supreme Court last Friday.
Lawyer Philip Perinchief, who made the application, told a courtroom full of Mr. Warner's family and friends that he was highly qualified to join the association.
Mr. Warner received his early education in his native St. Kitt's where he also attended a teachers training college. He then went on to graduate from the Bermuda College, Acadia University and Webster University.
He taught at Devon Lane School for five years (1986-1991) before pursuing a law degree.
Mr. Warner obtained his Bachelor of Law from the University of the West Indies and received legal training for his professional certification at the Norman Manley Law School in Kingston, Jamaica.
On October 1, Mr. Warner was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in the Eastern Caribbean States and in the St. Vincent and Grenadines circuit.
Although he has not yet secured employment with a local firm, Mr. Warner said he had the ability to pursue careers in either corporate, civil, or criminal law.
During his Call to the Bar before Puisne Judge Richard Ground last week, Mr.
Warner asked his friends and family "not to view his accomplishment as a confirmation of the fact that he had finally arrived, but instead, as the beginning of a new leg in this the journey of my life.''
