another horrendous car crash yesterday afternoon.

The smash happened on Middle Road, Warwick near the Warwick Pond just before 2.30 p.m. when a grey Mazda 323 car, travelling west, ploughed into a wall after the driver lost control.

The car overturned and was badly crushed in the smash and a section of wall was also reduced to rubble.

But miraculously the driver escaped with only minor scratches while his baby daughter was totally uninjured.

A fire crew was called to the scene after Police thought the driver, who has not been named, was trapped inside the crushed car. But he managed to crawl out of the wreckage and received first aid treatment at the scene.

The two crash victims were then taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a precautionary measure but were released after a check-up.

Police diverted traffic for nearly an hour to allow rescue crews to clear the road of debris.

So far seven people have been killed on the Island's roads this year. Last weekend 25-year-old Ashanti Smith became the latest road fatality statistic after the car in which he was a passenger collided with a van on North Shore Road, Devonshire.

Last night newly appointed Transport Minister Erwin Adderley declined to comment on this year's tragic road safety track record.
