machete attack that left a man lying on the Railway Trail in Sandys.

The victim, who was later discharged from hospital, was slashed across the shoulder just below the neck.

Police described the attack -- one of many assaults that took place over the weekend -- as serious.

Acting Detective Superintendent Victor Richmond has appealed for witnesses to the attack, particularly two couples: a white couple on pedal cycles and a black couple in a car.

"Both were believed to be passing around 4 p.m. and might have seen two men and a woman involved in an altercation,'' a Police statement said.

"They might have seen one of the three in possession of a machete, or a man lying injured on the ground.'' The assault took place on a section of the trail between Overplus Lane and Georges Bay Road, not far from White Hill Field.

The injured man received 18 stitches to the shoulder wound.
