Michael Bell faces a total of seven charges in connection with the two incidents.

It is alleged Bell, of 1 Trews Apartment, Paget, committed a serious assault on visitor David Creed in South Shore Road, Paget, as he walked with his wife.

It is also alleged Bell robbed Mr. Creed of his wallet, which contained 90, $150 in US currency and credit cards.

The Crown claims Bell also assaulted Mr. Creed's wife Ann and assaulted her with intent to commit robbery.

Bell is also accused of entering Loughlands guesthouse in Paget with intent to commit a crime, assaulting owner Ruth Mary Pickles and robbing her of a gold chain worth $900.

The accused, who appeared before Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King, was not required to enter a plea.

Bell asked Mr. King to allow him bail to find a lawyer to represent him as he had dispensed with the services of his previous counsel, Mark Pettingill.

Mr. King refused the request and remanded Bell in custody until January 13.

Earlier, Bell was in the dock at the same court on a separate charge with co-accused Herculano Arrudo, 29, also of 1 Trews Apartment.

The two were earlier this month charged with assaulting and attempting to rob a middle-aged American couple at the White Sands Hotel in Paget.

It was alleged the two, masked and armed with a knife, attacked Joseph and Charlotte Banzer, both in their 50s, on November 27 and attempted to rob them.

Bell also faced charges of assaulting hotel night manager Mark Browne, causing him bodily harm and carrying a knife with intent to commit a crime.

Yesterday, Arruda was also charged with the two offences Bell faced alone.

Arruda was not required to enter a plea.
