to reduce his 16-year prison sentence.

Yesterday the Court of Appeal reduced Andre Minors' sentence to 11 years after agreeing that 16 years was "manifestly excessive''.

Minors 28, pleaded guilty last summer to the attempted murder of his former girlfriend Miss Crystal Pearman on October 13, 1991.

Reading the decision the Hon. Mr. Justice Kempster said: "Longer sentences were appropriate for a series of attempted murders. The injuries are not a matter of dispute. But in this case we are satisfied that the sentence was manifestly excessive.'' On Monday the Appeals Court presided by the Hon. Mr. Justice da Costa heard that Andre T. Minors had a prison sentence that was too high according to his lawyer Mr. Archie Warner.

However, Crown Counsel Ms. Sharon Kenny argued that the 16-year sentence was not excessive and said Miss Pearman had lost half her blood from her wounds, which caused her 20 percent disability in both hands.

She added the fact that the case was considered "domestic'' should not deter from its seriousness.

Ms. Kenny also said the attack occurred in full view of young children leaving church and taxis carrying visitors from the Airport.

Miss Pearman, who is the mother of Minors' child suffered permanent damage to her hands in the knife attack, which occurred at midday on North Shore Road.

Before sentencing last July Minors had pleaded for Miss Pearman's forgiveness.
