Jason Stuart Smith, of Glebe Road in Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to a charge of trying to illegally export the money.

Customs officers discovered a false bottom containing US$10,000 in a suitcase belonging to Smith during a search at the Airport on May 29, Crown Counsel Mr.

Brian Calhoun told the court.

Smith at the time claimed to have $2,200 on him and was carrying a form authorising the export of $2,900. Officials seized a further $42 from the sole of Smith's right shoe.

Smith told the court that he would have followed proper procedure in exporting the currency if he had known what that procedure was.

Mr. Calhoun responded by saying he would think Smith "would know that the procedure is not to build a false bottom in the bottom of a suitcase and put $10,000 in US currency in it.'' CAUGHT IN THE ACT CTS Caught in the act A social inquiry report and psychological evaluation has been ordered for a 36-year-old Devonshire man who pleaded guilty to charges of prowling and wilful damage.

Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that Colin Wayne Simmons, of Store Lane in Devonshire, bored a peep-hole in the shutters of a Devonshire woman's bedroom window and then masturbated while watching her undress.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne told the court that the victim had heard strange sounds outside her window on one occasion but had attributed them to animals.

On a second occasion, however, she moved closer to the window and detected the smell of alcohol and realised that a man was standing outside.

Police identified Simmons still crouched outside the victim's window on June 7.

VISITOR FINED CTS Visitor fined An American visitor on vacation with his girlfriend was yesterday fined a total of $800 for two charges of trying to import cocaine and cannabis into Bermuda.

Customs officers found 6.96 grams of cannabis and 1.1 grams of cocaine concealed in the underwear of 35-year-old New York resident Thomas Mark Horvath during a search at the Airport on June 11.

Horvath was fined $300 for the cannabis possession and $500 for cocaine possession.
