Jerome Boyd Gibson, 33, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court last week to trespassing at his grandmother's home in Sandy's Parish.

Crown counsel Lesley Basden said Gibson moved in with his grandmother after living elsewhere for several years.

But his relatives complained that he would not work, did not contribute to the household, ran up the telephone bill and stole his grandmother's money and pension cheque.

On July 24, Gibson was sent a registered letter prohibiting him from being on the premises, but Police were contacted after Gibson was discovered sleeping on his grandmother's porch on Tuesday morning.

Gibson told Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King that he was given two weeks to collect his belongings and find alternative living arrangements.

He stated: "Basically, that's impossible. And if I were to be out on the streets, I would've been picked up by the Police anyway.'' But Mr. King stated: "Wandering abroad is no longer a crime in Bermuda. You had a choice.. .When you jump from the frying pan into the fire, you're going to get burned.'' He sentenced Gibson to a six month conditional discharge and warned him to stay away from the residence.
